![]() Animal recognition is a growing trend in the industry with Sony, Panasonic and recently Nikon all working hard on this technology. This is another positive piece of information and reinforces the feeling that Canon is stepping up its game. The EOS R has face and eye detection AF for humans, but it cannot detect animals. It will be be able to detect the face, the eyes and the entire body. Thanks to the second press released in March, we also know that the R5 will be able to recognise and focus automatically on animals such as birds, cats and dogs. The 1DX mark III doesn’t do this so perhaps it is too much to expect, but I hope to be proven wrong.Ĭoncerning the autofocus, the EOS R5 will use the renown Dual Pixel CMOS AF phase detection system already present in many Canon cameras, including the EOS R (it will certainly be an updated version). I’ll also be curious to see if the R5 will have a blackout-free live view with the electronic shutter like the Sony A9 series. Testing the EOS R at a football game with the EF 70-200mm f4 The exact number is yet to be revealed, but we can make a fair assumption thanks to another piece of information found in the text, which is 8K video recording. By comparing it to the EOS R, we can get a real sense of just how exciting this new announcement actually is!Įthics statement: the following is based on our personal experience with the EOS R and preliminary information released by Canon concerning the R5 model. It promises some very compelling specifications, some of which could be a world’s first in the interchangeable-lens camera segment. The company has announced the development of the next generation of EOS R cameras, the first one being the EOS R5. The good news is that this trend is likely to change in 2020. The performance of the EOS M APS-C series has always been behind the competition, and the recent EOS R full frame system hasn’t done much better. : New firmware version 1.7.Update: now that the EOS R5 is official, you can read all about it in our EOS R vs R5 extended preview article.Ĭanon has never shown an interest in “wowing” the crowd with advanced specifications since it started its journey into the mirrorless segment. : New firmware version 1.0.5.1 is available for EOS C70 : Help ensure your autofocus is properly aligned with a Canon Precision Alignment : New firmware version 1.0.3.1 is available for EOS-R5 C ![]() : New firmware version 1.4.1 is available for EOS R3 Tell us more about your shooting conditions. I think when I was underground a few times it wouldn't get a signal, but that was understandable. On my 6D2, a lack of signal never caused the camera not to operate. I've used the Canon Connect App to pass GPS to my camera and it works fine, but I still like built in onboard the best. No periodic GPS when the body was switched off. Inside it might take 30-60 sec, but once it had a signal, it was locked. That camera would get lock in a matter of seconds when outside. I've only had 1 body with GPS on board, a 6D2. This may not apply in your case, but you didn't say if you were indoors or out. There was never anything posted as far as a solution goes, but it might be helpful to know.Īs another test, you can also walk the camera into a location with a clear view of the sky and see if re-acquisition of a GPS signal allows the camera to operate again. I see that this problem and solution was reported on this forum in Feb-Mar we also confirm the version of your FW is v1.4.1? I was about to send it in a third time when I decided to do a Factory Reset and test each change in settings. The first service: a loose cable was reseated. It has been sent to Canon Service for this problem twice. I have used this camera for a year and it has had this problem since new. With only GPS enabled, the problem occurs less than every 2 hours I may get 6 hours of use before the controls lockup. I need GPS enabled but disable the other two GPS functions, "Auto time setting" and "GPS logger", because I think they make the problem worse. ![]() If GPS is disabled, which also disables "Auto time setting" and "GPS logger", then the problem does not occur. It appears to be a bug in the GPS software. This would happen anywhere between 30 seconds and 2 hours of use with an average of 1 hour. The battery must be removed and reinstalled to continue using the camera. During use, all camera controls stop responding to user inputs. ![]()
